The legend of "Holy Barbara"

plays a crucial role in Jaws harp history. In the 17th century as a witch sentenced to death, she had one last chance to be pardoned: she had to invent something new and of particular value to society. A buzzing from wood and bambus, she drew such mystical sounds that her judge was mildly voted and pardoned her. Barbara is now considered the patron saint of Jaws harp makers. Resourceful craftsmen developed a version made of iron and steel. With the decree of the craft order for Jaws harp maker in 1679 started the successful story.
